Creating an Elemental Garden

To have a delightful garden, it’s important to create an atmosphere that encompasses all of the natural elements; water, wood, metal, fire, and stone. Most gardens will incorporate wood and water, but often forget the other three important elements. For metal in the garden, consider silhouette metal art. The images can be whatever you like; cats, dogs, cowboys, it all depends on your tastes, and no, the metal on your garden swing or bench doesn’t count! Fire tends to be most difficult element to include, but in general, a garden lantern, torches, or a fire bowl are excellent additions. Stonework is essential for a thriving garden, including fountains, statuettes, and stepping-stones.

Having an elemental garden will make your outdoor experience much better.  Just think of all the unique pieces you or your visitors will have to admire in addition to the standard flowers, shrubs, and trees!

Outdoor Lighting

Traditionally gardens are thought of landscapes to be viewed and appreciated during the daylight hours.  However, with an outdoor lighting system, you can appreciate your garden in the early morning or evening hours as well.  Outdoor lighting systems can include simple fixtures like the garden lantern, but also ground lighting or outdoor lamps.  The goal is to accentuate the different types of flora in your garden with light to be viewable and also appear different than during daylight hours. In addition, you will be able to see and hear the nocturnal insects and animals that live in your garden but are inactive during the day.

Moroccan candle lanternsMorocco is often viewed as an oasis of inspiration for writers, painters, and weary travelers.  Numerous cultures and styles intersect in Morocco, which has several official languages.   Moroccan style home decor has become very popular in America recently, particularly in the Southwest and California regions, where there are many pueblos and pueblo-inspired homes.

Moroccan style incorporates vibrant reds, greens, and blues as well interspersed with metallic accents. Exotic plants, terra cotta tiles, and walls painted in textured methods are other Moroccan style hallmarks.  Moroccan light fixtures are world-famous for their craftsmanship, evoking an atmosphere of interesting characters and sweet-smelling spices.  Moroccan candle lanterns resemble highly regarded lighting produced in Morocco, but do not require electrical power, and their smaller size which makes them easy to incorporate into any home decor.
