Porcelain Rooster FamilyYou can often times get lost when remodeling your home or doing any home improvements. There are literally millions of items that you can choose for your home décor - so you have to know how to plan out your project.

If you’re a first time home owner, moving into a new apartment or anyone anxious to remodel their home; the first thing you want to do is to run out and start buying every cute little item here and there for your home décor project - stop.  You need to slow down and think about what you’re really trying to accomplish with your project. Every single room in your house could take on a different theme.

Perhaps one the most popular themes used today in a kitchen is the barnyard theme. Many people will narrow this down to focus just on cows or chickens or roosters or pigs. These types of barnyard animals seem to be the most popular and readily available items that you can find for any kitchen décor.  The rooster rules the roost in our kitchen and dining area.

bathroom linen cabinetEvery bathroom does not have a closet, and many houses also lack a linen closet or extra space to store towels, toilet paper and other bathroom necessities.  One solution is to acquire a bathroom linen cabinet, which can become a focal point of your bathroom decor if you choose.

A bathroom linen cabinet can not only store linens and bathroom items, but serve as a display case for knickknacks you have chosen to complement your bathroom theme.

Morocco and its Style

Moroccan candle lanternsMorocco is often viewed as an oasis of inspiration for writers, painters, and weary travelers.  Numerous cultures and styles intersect in Morocco, which has several official languages.   Moroccan style home decor has become very popular in America recently, particularly in the Southwest and California regions, where there are many pueblos and pueblo-inspired homes.

Moroccan style incorporates vibrant reds, greens, and blues as well interspersed with metallic accents. Exotic plants, terra cotta tiles, and walls painted in textured methods are other Moroccan style hallmarks.  Moroccan light fixtures are world-famous for their craftsmanship, evoking an atmosphere of interesting characters and sweet-smelling spices.  Moroccan candle lanterns resemble highly regarded lighting produced in Morocco, but do not require electrical power, and their smaller size which makes them easy to incorporate into any home decor.

French Provincial Photo Frame ScreenMy wife and I just returned from a wonderful weekend staying with friends of ours’ who live in upstate New York.  They live in a beautiful three bedroom log home with an L shaped loft which serves as their master bedroom.  The kitchen, living room, bathroom and the other two bedrooms are located on the ground floor.  Although the kitchen and living room share one open space, each room is clearly defined with the strategic placement of the furniture.  The same holds true up in the loft.  Here screens were used along with furniture to divide this space into three separate spaces.   Using room dividers to section off large spaces makes the most of the area while still allowing one to enjoy open floor-plan living.

Multi-purpose areas require some form of internal organization to avoid chaos and confusion. Room dividers don’t increase the space at your disposal, but they make better sense of it.
